Our Vision for Science at St Paul's C of E Primary:

"At St Paul's C of E Primary School, we believe that Science should develop children's inquisitiveness about the world around them, sparking their interest and curiosity to gain scientific knowledge that will prepare them for the 21st century."

Science at St Paul's C of E Primary School is covered through cross-curricular learning and is linked to the Cornerstones projects but taught through the National Curriculum Objectives.

In line with the National Curriculum, pupils will be taught to ‘work scientifically’ and given opportunities to do so through each project.

Our staff team will aim to ensure:

teaching enables children to develop an understanding of key scientific knowledge, clearly and coherently building on their previous experiences and skills.
science fosters and develops children's curiosity, awe and wonder, allowing our pupils to confidently ask questions about the world around them and explore their thinking.
science teaching promotes children's enquiry, problem solving, exploration and collaboration skills to help develop their understanding of key scientific concepts.
teachers value the practical nature of science and the importance of modelling scientific vocabulary.
science at St Paul's includes investigations, visitors/experts, whole school events and cross curricular links in order to make it feel real and relevant for our pupils.
science learning is embedded and our pupils are able to recall their previous learning, applying it to their current lessons and making links with the wider world.
our children learn about diversity in science through different scientists, inventors and careers to help broaden their understanding of science in the real world.
our pupils are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

To support the well-structured and progressive curriculum, the school makes use of a range of engaging resources such as those provided by Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Association for Science Education (ASE), Cornerstones and Explorify.

Teachers plan for the teaching and learning of science through a robust LTP, which ensures the progression of skills and knowledge across the whole school and which allows progress and challenge for all pupil groups. Enrichment partnerships are carefully planned and arranged to raise and support children's love of science. Classes across the whole school take part in STEM workshops run by their ambassadors to support the teaching of science, where they can also aspire to different careers in STEM.

We are committed to outdoor learning and offer a range of practical, outdoor learning experiences, including lessons in our newly developed playground nature area, our very own school allotment, our local Holgate Dock and Community Gardens.

Each year we celebrate STEM and offer children an engaging, practical curriculum week based on enrichment workshops, trips and visitors into school. Children are given various opportunities to develop their working scientific skills through a variety of exciting scientific enquiries.
